Ticker Technologies Utilizes Sun's Java Technology NEW YORK, May 7, 2003 - Ticker Technologies, Inc. (http://www.tickertech.com), a premier provider of applications for integrating market-related content into Internet, Intranet, and Extranet sites, announces the use of Sun's (NASDAQ: SUNW) Java technology in the company's suite of products. Ticker Technologies Inc. (TTI) utilizes Java Applets for its streaming Ticker product line. The Ticker Applets constantly update and display stock quotes, news, sports, and custom information. The information is scrolled smoothly across the screen in any direction, incorporating fonts, graphics, and even sounds. "Java Applets allow our Ticker products to be much more advanced than if we had simply used JavaScript and HTML," stated Benjamin Nobel, TTI's CTO. "A Java Applet is an actual program, as opposed to just marked-up text and graphics moving around. With Java, we can constantly update the information shown on the ticker, and provide a useful GUI (graphical user interface)." In addition to Java Applets, which are client-side Java programs, TTI utilizes Java on the server-side, in the form of Java Servlets. Illi Eisner, TTI's VP of Engineering, stated "Java Servlets power our charting applications, allowing us to create custom chart images on-the-fly. If you wanted to, say, compare the 5 year performance of the NASDAQ, S&P 500, and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) together on the same chart, our Charting Servlet would construct the chart in real-time and return it to you in a standard image format." Java also has a role in TTI's data processing. Using Java's SQL packages, much of TTI's back-end database maintenance is performed using Java programs. "Java makes our company's products possible," stated Adam Menzel, TTI's COO. "Both on the back-end and on the front end, Java is an invaluable tool for us as a company."
